Alexander Vinnik is one of the criminals behind Mt. Gox hack and and BTC-e money laundering scheme with epic proportions. Just few days ago Greek law enforcement discovered a plot to poison him.
Instructions were given to the prison director and the prosecutor of the city of Thessaloniki because of the threat to Vinnik’s life. No identities were revealed, but it is believed attack was planned by a “Russian national”. Vinnik is waiting for his extradition to Russia.
Sputnik News source told reporters that special services are not involved, murder attempt is being planned only by Russian underworld. Sputnik’s source also added that there is absolutely no connection between Vinnik’s case and former Russian spy Sergei Skripal’s case, although there seems to be some similarities, especially with the poisoning part.
It is believed that Vinnik’s problems began after his extradition to the United States was denied by court officials – there seem to be many parties interested in Vinnik not showing his face in Russia.
Vinnik was arrested at the request of USA – there he is under investigation and suspected in laundering epic sums of stolen money through cryptocurrency exchanges.
